Use of a Building Database in Prediction of Three-dimensional Diffraction

چکیده
This paper describes the use of a building database and a three-dimensional formulation of the Fresnel-Kirchoff diffraction theory to compute the shadowing by buildings in the general situation where diffraction can occur by building edges of both horizontal and vertical orientation. The storage format of buildings in a geographi_c information systems database is described. An algorithm is presented for identifying the nearest diffracting building and d~riving the necessary information for the evaluation of the diffraction integral. Example results are presented to show the utility of this approach.

Simulation of Smoke Emission from Fires in High-Rise Buildings Using the 3D Model Generated from 2-Dimensional Cadastral Data
Having a 3-Dimensional model of high-rise buildings can be used in disaster management such as fire cases to reduce casualties. The fundamental dilemma in 3D building modeling is the unavailability of suitable data sources. However, available cadastral 2D maps could be used as low-cost and attainable resources for 3D building modeling. Smoke will be a great threat to people's health during a f...

Designers of low-power radio systems for use in urban areas would benefit from accurate computer-based predictions of signal loss due to shadowing. This paper presents a propagation prediction method that exploits a building database and considers the three-dimensional profile of the radio path. Models and algorithms are provided that allow the application of Fresnel-Kirchhoff diffraction theor...
متن کاملAN Improved UTD Based Model For The Multiple Building Diffraction Of Plane Waves In Urban Environments By Using Higher Order Diffraction Coeficients
This paper describes an improved model for multiple building diffraction modeling based on the uniform theory of diffraction (UTD). A well-known problem in conventional uniform theory of diffraction (CUTD) is multiple-edge transition zone diffraction. Here, higher order diffracted fields are used in order to improve the result; hence, we use higher order diffraction coefficients to improve a hy...

متن کاملModelling of Shadowing Loss Due to Huge Non-polygonal Structures in Urban Radio Propagation
Ray tracing algorithms rely on two dimensional or three dimensional database. They use ray optical techniques referred to as the uniform theory of diffraction (UTD) using building database given as polygons. Building geometries can also be modelled as having non-planar geometries, and this would be important in modeling of shadowing loss due to curved structures in urban radio propagation. To d...
